THE CRADLE OF SKIING is a designation often used about Norway, where skis have been a means of transport, a pastime and a sport for centuries. Here you will find the story of the people who allegedly "are born with skis on their feet".

NORWEGIAN HERITAGE is a series of books about our most important and best-known national icons. Thor Gotaas

Thor Gotaas (f. 1965), er forfatter av kulturhistoriske bøker. Han er utdannet i folkloristikk og folkeminnevitenskap ved UiO og har skrevet en rekke bøker. Gotaas er særlig opptatt av historien til outsidere i samfunnet – mennesker som beveger seg. Som folklorist velger han å se historien mer nedenfra enn for eksempel historikere. Han er en av Norges fremste eksperter på skihistorie, og har skrevet flere bøker om emnet – ikke om resultater og medaljefordeling, men skihistorie som kulturhistorie.
